Impact of Disability in the First Session

$996 continuing education credit available for NYS LMHCs, LCSWs, and LMSWs, upon completion of this 6 hour training.
Course Description:
Impact of Disability During the First Session will provide an overview of competency practices when working with patients with disabilities. It will emphasize understanding the impact of disability during the intake session with a patient. Practitioners will learn about practices they can incorporate into their work with patients with disabilities, to ensure that they embrace multicultural disability competence (MDC).
Objectives of the Course:
- Gain multicultural disability competence (MDC).
- Understand the psychological impact of disability for individuals with various types of disability.
- Understand technology’s impact on individuals with disabilities within a mental health services environment.
- Gain an understanding of the impact of disability on the delivery modalities within the continuum of care, such as inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization treatment and aftercare, and mental health counseling services networks.
- Gain an understanding of the impact of disability on the structure of therapy and the responsibilities of practitioners to embed universal design in every aspect of their practice.

This course will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break and two 15-minute breaks throughout the day and will be offered online via Zoom.
