Browsing
The Center for Independence of the Disabled, New York (CIDNY) understands that privacy is a real concern for people with disabilities and for other members of our community. Our privacy policy addresses those concerns. We do not require that you provide information in order to use our site. You can visit most areas of our site without telling us who you are and without sharing any personally identifiable information. You may voluntarily provide information to us such as name, address, zip code, e-mail address if you want to make a donation online, volunteer for our advocacy network, or request that information be sent to you. When you give us this information, you are giving us permission to contact you in the future to seek your support. We use the information you provide only for internal purposes. We do not sell or otherwise provide your information to third parties unless you agree or we are required to share the information by law. If you make an online contribution to CIDNY, you will be sent to a secure site operated by PayPal. PayPal collects this information and submits it to CIDNY to accept and process your donation, credit card type, and number. The information on the donation forms is protected as described at the bottom of the donation form. The only information we collect from a typical website visit is the IP address of the computer you use to visit our site, the browser and type of machine you are using, the website that referred you to us, the pages you request, and the date and time you request them. We use this information only to measure the usefulness of the site to our visitors.
Cookies
Cookies are files that web browsers place on a computer’s hard drive and are used to tell us whether customers and visitors have visited the site previously. CIDNY’s website does use cookies. When you come to our website, our web server sends a cookie to your computer. Standing alone, cookies do not identify you personally. They merely recognize your browser. Unless you choose to identify yourself to CIDNY by donating, registering for our advocacy network or requesting that information be sent to you, you remain anonymous to CIDNY. Cookies come in two flavors: session and persistent-based. Session cookies exist only during an online session. They disappear from your computer when you close your browser software or turn off your computer. Persistent cookies remain on your computer after you’ve closed your browser or turned off your computer. They include such information as a unique identifier for your browser. CIDNY uses session cookies containing encrypted information to allow the system to uniquely identify you while you are logged in. This information allows CIDNY to process your online transactions and requests. Session cookies help us make sure you are who you say you are after you’ve logged in and are required in order to access the members only section or administrative application. PayPal uses persistent cookies that only PayPal can read and use, to identify the fact that you are a PayPal customer or prior PayPal website visitor (whatever the case may be). We are especially careful about the security and confidentiality of the information stored in persistent cookies. For example, we provide a very clear warning when choosing the “remember my password” feature for member logins. This feature will store a member’s username and password in persistent cookies. Users who disable their web browsers’ ability to accept cookies will be able to browse our website, but will not be able to use member only or administrative services.
Third Party Information Collection and Disclosure Practices
CIDNY’s website offers hyperlinks to web sites operated by third parties. We do not control the content or privacy practices of those sites. We are aware that these third parties may have collection and disclosure practices that differ from CIDNY’s practices. We do not make any warranties or representations regarding the practices of such sites. SMS opt-in or phone numbers for the purpose of SMS are not being shared with any third party and affiliate company for marketing purposes.
Updates and Questions
This policy may be updated from time to time. When the policy is updated we will post a notice on the web page so that you may review the revised policy. If you have any questions regarding privacy or security on the CIDNY website, please contact us by e-mail at info@cidny.org or submit your inquiry through the “Ask CIDNY” link on the homepage.
