Benefits Counselor for the Visually Impaired – Queens

The Benefits Counselor will assist consumers with a comprehensive intake, assessment of needs, entitlement benefits screening, information, and referrals, and ensure appropriate follow-up of services; with a specific focus on those with visual impairments. In addition, consumers will have the opportunity to develop an independent living plan that documents their goals, steps to achieve them, services that will support them in seeking their goals, and outcomes. The benefits counselor will assist individuals in knowing their rights and understanding how to self-advocate. The counselor will engage in advocacy together with and on behalf of consumers, including representation in hearings and appeals.

Director of Human Resources

The Center for Independence of the Disabled in New York (CIDNY) is a leading organization serving and representing people with all disabilities in New York City. Specific Duties:

  • Monitor changes in employment law, participate in development and implement of any amendments to HR policies and procedures with emphasis on compliance with applicable laws including the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Devise and execute a strategy for job postings, screenings, interviews and selection processes with a focus on recruitment of a knowledgeable and skilled workforce of people with disabilities, people who are Black, Hispanic/Latinx, Asian American, and LGBTQ.
  • Reduce the turnover rate by 20% by hiring skilled professionals who are equipped to work with consumers with disabilities.
  • Work with the General Counsel to ensure employment compliance.
  • Identify employee education priorities, educate new employees and provide ongoing education of employees as required.
  • Develop employee recognition and development strategies and manage employee relations.
  • Manage complaint process, perform required investigations, disciplinary actions, performance management and terminations.
  • Ensure appropriate record management.
  • Collaborate with directors to develop job descriptions, educate and evaluate staff.
  • Contribute information, analysis and recommendations on employee relations to strategic planning and CIDNY’s human resources objectives.
  • Supervise one employee.
  • Assist with the evaluation of cost comparisons regarding vendors for employee benefits.
  • Report on all departmental activities to the Executive Director.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

NY Connects Benefits Counselor - Brooklyn

The NY Connects Program provides Information and Assistance and Options Counseling/Person-Centered Counseling on Long Term Services and Supports (LTSS) for individuals with disabilities and older adults. The benefits counselor will assist consumers with information and referrals, comprehensive intake and assessment of needs, benefits eligibility screening, and appropriate follow-up. Individuals will have the opportunity to develop a person-centered independent living plan that documents their goals, steps to achieve them, services that will support them in seeking their goals, and outcomes.

Transition Specialist

CIDNY is seeking a Transition Specialist for a new statewide initiative to assist individuals transitioning from institutional settings to the community. The Transition Specialist will facilitate and coordinate for individuals residing in institutions with a comprehensive plan to transition back to living in the community. The Transition Specialist will spend their work time in CIDNY’s Queens, NY office and traveling between boroughs.
