Trauma and Disability

Course Description : 

The Trauma and Disability course will help participants to gain the knowledge and skills needed to provide sensitive and effective trauma-informed care to people with disabilities and their support systems. The course provides an overview of the effects of trauma on people with various types of disabilities. It aims to provide participants a thorough understanding of the cause of trauma on the disabled community, as a result of intersectionality, and systemic and physical barriers. Participants will learn about the statistics of the increased trauma among the disability population. The course will also provide an overview of the impact of secondary trauma on caregivers.  

Objectives of the Course:  

  1. Gain multicultural disability competence (MDC). 
  2. Understand the psychological impact of trauma on individuals with various types of disabilities.  
  3. Understand the systems in place that lead to trauma for individuals with disabilities.

This course will be held from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm with a one-hour lunch break and two 15-minute breaks throughout the day and will be offered online via Zoom.
