ASL Benefits Counselor
The American Sign Language (ASL) benefits counselor will assist consumers with a comprehensive intake, assessment of needs, benefits screening, information and referrals, and ensure appropriate follow-up of services. Although the ASL benefits counselor will work with all consumers, their focus will be on working with deaf and hard of hearing consumers. In addition, individuals will have the opportunity to develop an independent living plan that documents their goals, steps to achieve them, and services that will support them in seeking their goals and outcomes. The ASL benefits counselor will assist individuals in knowing their rights and understanding how to self-advocate. The counselor will engage in advocacy together with and on behalf of consumers, including representation in hearings and appeals.

Chief Program Officer

The ideal candidate is an individual with a disability with deep roots in the disability community who has experience overseeing all administrative and operational functions of a non-profit organization as assigned by the Executive Director. The CIDNY Chief Program Officer is a senior leadership and management position. The person will have important internal and external facing responsibilities. The Chief Program Officer will be a critical thinking partner to the Executive Director and will help shape the vision, strategic direction, and the organization’s priority activities. The Chief Program Officer will also help CIDNY deliver on its mission by ensuring that the programmatic work is carried out in a manner consistent with CIDNY’s values and goals.

The LTCOP Ombudsman Advocate will represent the program by investigating and resolving complaints related to long-term care facilities. This position requires 3 days a week in the field, making visits to long-term care facilities in Brooklyn, and 2 days a week in the office, supporting the virtual call center. CIDNY seeks a highly effective Reassurance Counselor to provide an active listening ear to our consumers and provide assistance with connection to community resources and services. A Reassurance Counselor must have excellent listening skills as well as excellent communication skills, all the while comprehending what the consumer is trying to convey. Every consumer is to be treated with dignity and respect. A Reassurance Counselor must be knowledgeable and respectful of all disabilities, cultures, and their associated stigma. Reassurance Counselor must have at least 2 years of experience working with the disabled population and no less than two years of experience counseling. A Reassurance Counselor must be open-minded and have flexibility in servicing multicultural consumers, LGBTQ consumers, homeless consumers, and more while providing support and resources.
